ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ---- The Rockford Art Museum kicked off its 78th Young Artist Show, recognizing some of its best and brightest young artists on Sunday.
More than 375 paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media are on display, created by kindergarten through eighth grade students at 65 schools in Winnebago County. The museum held a free public opening and awards ceremony for those who participated, with one student recognized per grade for their efforts.
"Our young artist show is very unique, there's not a whole lot of museums that showcase local art, especially kids, so I think it's a great opportunity to get students into a museum who may have never been there before, and to let them know that their work is appreciated and people do want to see it," said Janelle O’Malley, Education Coordinator.
Students and teachers of any grade at any school receive free admission to the Rockford Art Museum throughout the 78th Young Artist Show, which remains open until May 5.
