Bilderback Gets Third Win Saturday

By Jordan Kuehne, Rockford Speedway

LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, June 20, 2009) - Ricky Bilderback knew he had the fastest car early in the night and he showed it when the time was right, grabbing the lead three laps into the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models 30-lap main event and holding off a hard-charging Jon Reynolds Jr. for his third feature win of the season. Ron Morris collected his first career Bargain Hunter Sportsman feature win and Ricky Nielson brought home the top spot in the Mtn Dew RoadRunners headline event.

The action was fast and furious in the 30-lap Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model feature. Early cautions flew on laps three and twelve for incidents involving Tim Noble and Nick Shutkas followed by a wreck that ended Mikie Breiner's night early.

Ricky Bilderback took advantage of his decent starting position in the 14 car field, moving from fifth to the lead in just three laps. Kyle Shear, riding in second behind Bilderback halfway into the feature, started diving low into turns one and two trying to pull beside Bilderback but to no avail as Bilderback was simply too strong.

Shear eventually surrendered the second position to "Driver X", hard-charging Jon Reynolds Jr, who came from fifth to second in just four laps in the middle of the feature. Reynolds Jr. turned his sights toward Bilderback with ten laps remaining but ran out of time trying to reel him in as Bilderback came across the finish line six car lengths ahead.

Bilderback collected his third feature win of the season after setting fast time earlier in the night.

"I knew we had the fastest car tonight," a pleased Bilderback stated in victory lane. "It was a rocket ship out there and I was confident no one could catch us."

Reynolds Jr. gave Bilderback his best shot but came home second. Shear crossed the line in third while defending champion Jerry Gille and Mark Hartline rounded out the top five.

Ron Morris started out front in the 25-lap main event for the Bargain Hunter Sportsman and never let go, holding off a furious dash to the finish by points leader Doug Bennett to pick up his first career feature win at the high-banked quarter mile.

Morris built up a decent-sized lead early on while Bennett and three-time division champion Fred Nason worked their way towards the front. With ten laps to go, Bennett managed to find his way into second after Don Exline got loose in turn two.

At the same time Bennett was moving into second, Nason worked his way past Scott Lawver and Justin Sellers when the caution flew with eight laps remaining after Butch Swinbank got tangled up with Ricky Nielson in turn four.

On the restart, Morris pulled away from Bennett again, while Nason started challenging on the inside. Bennett pushed his way to the back bumper of Morris with four laps remaining and started peeking on the inside trying to make a pass for the lead. Bennett didn't have enough though, falling just short as Morris crossed the finish line in first.

"It's a statement to the job the crew has done to pick up this win tonight," an elated Morris said afterwards. "It feels awesome to finally get that monkey off our back and pick up our first feature win here."

Exline, Nason and Lawver finished off the top five.

Jonathon Stoltz led the 24 car Mtn Dew RoadRunners field to the green flag in their 20-lap headliner. Stoltz didn't stay up front for long, getting shuffled to fifth after the first lap as Ricky Nielson, pulling double duty all season long in the Sportsman and RoadRunners divisions, grabbed the top spot.

Nielson built up a solid lead until Dana Czach Jr. found his way into the second spot. Czach Jr. slowly began to cut into Nielson's lead, running out of time in the end and having to settle for second. Nielson picked up his second feature win of 2009, celebrating with his father in victory lane.

Howie Ware, Eric Schoffen and Bobby Frisch completed the top five.
