ROCKFORD (WIFR) – It’s a hands-on opportunity to learn about welding and career opportunities in the industry.

The American Welding Society’s ‘Careers in Welding’ trailer rolled into town today. The 53-foot trailer parked in the Discovery Center Parking Lot to offer welding simulators for people interested in the career field. The simulators allow people to use like-real welding gun that simulate melting pieces of metal together. The hope of the trailer is to get people interested in the field, which is expected to face a critical shortage of over 374,000 professionals in the next 10 years.

The average age of a welder is 55-years-old. The trailer travels around the country to recruit young people, both kids and adults, to try to spike interest in welding.
