Rockford (WIFR) -- A Belvidere family is now being called by some in the community, the forgotten family.
The Cardinal family says they're amazed by the outpouring of support they've received from neighbors and complete strangers.
They live off of Huber Road in Belvidere, surrounded by a hand full of other houses. Their home, however, was the only one that last week's tornado destroyed. The family of seven has seen a great amount of support, but could use a lot more. So far, two go fund me sites have been set up for them, one from the Boone County Fire Department, and the other from a friend. Also, several other friends who work at the Belvidere Chrysler Plant set up a Forgotten Family Benefit at all Alpine Bank locations.
“It's just a wonderful feeling that people are there to help us as well and to know that we have people that care,” says Nicole Cardinal.
“I’m happy that my family and I are ok. We need this help because when the tornado hit, we lost everything,” says Dylin Ackerman.
There will also be a fundraiser benefit for the cardinal family on June 6th at the UAW Hall in Belvidere. The family says they are grateful for all of the support and that they are going to rebuild in the same spot.
