ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A new Rockford festival says it’s bringing in star studded musical acts like Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson, but since its website went up sometime in the last few weeks, it’s now being called a hoax.
The website is for an event called SymbolFest. At first, the site said the event was going to be held at Rock Cut State Park and promoted musical acts like Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson, adding that it was all free. The supposed Labor Day weekend event also had sponsors like the Rockford Park District and City of Rockford, but city leaders say they don’t know anything and believe it’s all too good to be true.
“I said hey, it looks like a great festival and I started looking at it and I’m like wait, free, free, free and with these names, there’s no way. It looked like a great idea, but obviously an unfortunate stick-poking, ethic poking-the-bear of the On the Waterfront legacy and being Labor Day weekend,” said John Groh with the RACVB.
The page has since taken down its sponsors and says Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson have cancelled, but it still has an area where you can reserve tickets.
