Rockford's New Federal Courthouse is Ready to Open

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The wait ends tomorrow: Rockford’s new federal courthouse is opening downtown. Not all, but most court-related federal agencies will be under its roof.

The new and improved federal court house’s dedication ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow. Senator Dick Durbin and Representative Don Manzullo will be in attendance.

The building is named after long-time U.S. District Court Judge Stanley Rozskowski. The previous court house was built over thirty years ago, and through time the court house suffered from structural problems and inadequate security. The new building cost over 100-million dollars to build and integrates energy-saving practices.

The dedication ceremony starts tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in front of the court house. Occupy Rockford plans to have their protest against the court house at the same time the dedication is taking place. We will have an update on what happens at the event tomorrow evening.
