SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn's running mate will continue working in Connecticut until March 1, just before Illinois' primary election.

Paul Vallas will keep working as the superintendent of Bridgeport public schools. Vallas submitted his resignation to Bridgeport officials on Dec. 31 which is required 60 days in advance.

Quinn picked Vallas to be his running mate in November. Vallas was a former Chicago schools CEO.

Quinn is considered a front runner on the Democratic ticket. Illinois' primary election will be held March 18.
