UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – More people are losing their jobs as three more stores in CherryVale mall close.
Shopping options are about to change for customers at CherryVale Mall. As we first told you last week, CherryVale stores Wet Seal and Body Central closed their doors and now three more stores have announced they are leaving as well. A third teen clothing store, Deb, is also leaving soon. Like Wet Seal and Body Central, the company is having money problems and filing for bankruptcy. The children’s clothing store Aeropostale P.S. closed shop yesterday, along with all of their stores across the country due to declining sales. At the end of the month, Avon will be ringing up their last customers.
These closings are causing hundreds of thousands of workers nationwide to lose their jobs. We asked mall reps what’s going on. In a Statement, CherryVale Mall regional marketing director Sean Phillips says:
“CherryVale Mall continues to be a shopping destination for the local community and offers a diverse selection of retailers and restaurants. In addition, the center continues to contribute to overall economy in Rockford, and the surrounding area, and we look forward to serving our customers for many years to come."
"Our leasing team is actively pursuing new retailers; and when we have news to announce we will let you know. Store closures provide us with a great opportunity to enhance the offerings at the center by re-energizing the retail mix and bringing in stores that are new to the center or the market."
Avon customers will still be able to purchase their products at their other store down the street from the mall on Mill Road.
We also confirmed that the local business, De Colores is not closing. They’re just relocating to another part of the mall.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- For the second time in a week, a store in the CherryVale Mall has closed. Body Central, located near Charming Charlie, left Sunday along with 264 other stores across the nation.
The company is leaving more than 2,000 workers out of a job.
Clothing store Wet Seal also moved out of the mall last week.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A store is closing at the CherryVale Mall.
Wet Seal closed its doors inside the mall Wednesday, just one of 340 stores, or two thirds of its locations that closed nationwide. About 3,700 workers are losing their jobs as a result. The retailer has struggled as low priced fashion chains like H&M and Forever 21 gain traction. Wet Seal said last month it is considering filing for bankruptcy.
