Bobbleheads to Raise Money for Guilford High School Newspaper and Yearbook

Rockford (WIFR) -- A Stateline school almost saw its newspaper come to an end after 50 years and now it's receiving a generous donation from a pair of alumni.

Extra, extra, read all about it. Guilford High School Alum, Phil Sklar and Brad Novak showed up to their old stomping grounds today with bobbleheads they made, which are going to help fund the newspaper and yearbook. Publications Advisor, Dan Bingley has been running “The Voyager” for the last three years and says it’s great to see that alumni care.

“Phil and brad just extending their hands to us, giving us a publicity and raising awareness about our program was really special.”

Sklar and Novak created the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee. For each one of the thousand bobbleheads sold, $5 will be contributed to both the newspaper and yearbook.

“This is one we’re really excited about just because we’re both from Rockford, spent our first 18 years here and now coming back full circle with the bobbleheads.”

Sklar says it’s only fitting that he helps out his alma mater.

“I was voted most school spirit in high school. So, I guess this is pretty fitting to make the bobblehead now of the mascot.”

“The Voyager” almost came to an end recently due to the lack of student help, but with a full class coming in the fall, Bingley says things are looking great for the newspaper and that the bobblehead money is really going to help.

“It will be a great help to our program to buy some additional equipment.”

The Guilford High School mascot bobbleheads can be purchased for $15 at the Insurance King location on North Alpine in Rockford, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 7:30 pm.
