WINNEBAGO, Ill. (WIFR) It takes a lot of hard work, attrition, patience and talent to achieve 500 wins. However, Winnebago girls basketball head coach Judy Krause achieved that milestone earlier this season.
In her 30th year with the Lady Indians basketball program, Krause won her 500th game back on November 16. Winnebago athletic director Will Hartje organized a surprise ceremony on Saturday for the long-time head coach. Former players were brought back to say congratulations and a keepsake basketball to commemorate the achievement was given to her.
The Lady Indians then went out and steamrolled Fulton 68-23.
Krause said she had no idea this was planned but was humble in her accomplishment.
"It's great that it happened, certainly a lot of hard work by a lot of kids out there," said Krause.
"I think in the whole grand scheme of things, I don't think very many women are in this situation, so in that regards, I hope I can be a role model for the kids we have coming up. I'm always thrilled with my assistant coaches (they) are always former players, so that says a lot to me as well."
