ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) IceHogs goalie Matt Tomkins signed a two-year, two-way deal that will keep him in the Blackhawks organization through the 2020-2021 season.
This season, the 25-year-old is 5-4-0 with a 2.45 goals against average and .916 save percentage.
"I love it here in Rockford," said Tomkins. "I love the organization. There's nothing but good things to say about it. It's been huge to develop those relationships over the years. I love playing here, I want to play for the Chicago Blackhawks one day and I'm just really happy with how things are going here over the years getting opportunities to develop my game. It's been huge and to be able to sign the contract is an amazing feeling. I'm looking forward to what's going to happen next."
In 17 games with Rockford, the Edmonton native is 6-8-1 with a 3.17 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.
Tomkins was drafted by Chicago in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Tomkins also helped Team Canada win the 2019 Spengler Cup.
