ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- Kyle Slattery defeated Danny Gorman in a four-hole playoff on Sunday to win his first Winnebago County Amateur championship.
Slattery came out on fire on day two, shooting a -4 on the front nine. He had a chance to shoot a 31 going out, but the ball missed just left of the hole on nine. He shot a -3 (68) for the day.
Playing with Slattery both days, Gorman hung tough, shooting a 34 on the first nine. He finished the day -1 (70) in a tie with Slattery at four under for the tournament. The two former Boylan Titans would square off in a playoff.
After trading pars on the first and second playoff hole, both golfers would then birdie three.
Slattery's tee shot on four landed in the rough, but his recovery shot went over a pine tree and landed five feet from the pin.
Gorman stood over his putter first with a chance to birdie, but his putt fell short and curled away from the cup.
Slattery took advantage of the opportunity and buried his birdie attempt to pick up the tournament win.
"It's a lot of fun battling against him. You know, it's pretty challenging," said Slattery. "We definitely go back and forth, but it definitely feels good to get this one."
