ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Even though Frankie Schiro was an all-conference basketball and soccer player at Boylan, she was unsure if she would ever play again after graduation, but on Thursday her signature made sure she is far from finished.
The former Titans star officially committed to play both sports at Rock Valley College starting this fall.
Schiro says there was a time when she thought this day may never happen. That's because she has battled Crohn's disease since eighth grade with chemotherapy taking a toll on her energy and well being.
She says she hopes to be a four-time national champion by the time she leaves campus, but her health was the number one thing on her mind when picking RVC.
"[Number] one was just my health," said Schiro. "It was hard to try and figure out doctors and everything at other places and I was really unsure for a long time if I was still able to play again so Rock Valley was the perfect fit. It was in my hometown and it's where I can play both basketball and soccer. Honestly, I never thought this day would come. I never thought I'd actually get a signing day. It just means a lot to be able to have all of my family and friends here and just to be able to play and represent Rock Valley."
