ESPN anchor, Hononegah grad Nicole Briscoe to headline Sport Stories

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - ESPN's Nicole Briscoe will be the featured keynote speaker at the second annual "Sport Stories" fundraiser on Sept. 13.

The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau made the announcement on Friday at The Collector's Bench sports memorabilia store downtown. "Sport Stories" is a community celebration of some of the most successful athletes and sports professionals who are native to the region.

Briscoe, a 1998 Hononegah graduate, has worn many hats during her time with ESPN. She is an anchor for the flagship sports program "SportsCenter" and recently helped with coverage of the Indianapolis 500. Briscoe recently signed a new multi-year deal with ESPN.

Briscoe started her career in television news here in Rockford, before working her way up the ranks. She remembers growing up in the area, there was no need for a Sportscore Two, but is excited to see the Stateline become a sports destination.

"It's humbling and it's really fun to sort of take a step back and look at where it started and where I am now," said Briscoe. "It sort of puts in perspective all of the sort of things I've been able to do. It kind of helps you take stock of your life a little bit, it's fun that way."

"There are so many remarkable people from this area who've accomplished so much and they deserve their time in the sun. I think it's fantastic that we're doing what we can to shine light on some of the success stories from our region."
