ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Table tennis enthusiasts will be flocking to Rockford this fall for the 2019 North American Olympic Table Tennis Trials.
The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment Authority and the International Table Tennis Federation partnered to bring the competition to the Forest City.
Men and women will compete to represent Team USA and Team Canada at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"To have the Olympic trials, the road to Tokyo going through Rockford, is a great opportunity," said RACVB President/CEO John Groh. "One we're very honored to host and very exciting for the city of Rockford. We'll work with the ITTF to look at what other events that we can bring in that are on their series. Actually, we're already in conversation with them about that. We do hope that, on the international stage, especially as it relates to the Olympic movement, this is the first of what might be many over the next many years."
