ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford Lutheran head football coach Chuck Leonard is stepping down.

Leonard has announced his resignation as football coach at Rockford Lutheran for personal reasons. He served as head coach the last two seasons.

The team's defensive coordinator Henry Robison takes over on an interim basis.

Rockford Lutheran Athletic Director Josh Sternquist released the following statement:

"Coach Leonard has been in the trenches with these young men through a lot of adversity. His goal was to develop Christ-centered men and he succeeded during his time as head football coach. The team GPA was the highest it had been in some time and discipline was nearly perfect. Coach Leonard would have liked to win some more games but the foundation has been laid. I have no doubts those wins were on the horizon.

Coach Leonard is a colleague, friend, and most importantly family. Rockford Lutheran wishes him and his family the best of luck. He is and always will be family. Coach Leonard will not be available for comment. We ask everyone to respect his privacy and his request for personal time."
