Rock Valley returns to the Forest City as the national runner-up

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Rock Valley men's basketball returned to Rockford on Sunday as the national runner-up after losing to Herkimer in the NJCAA DIII national championship.

It was the first time the Golden Eagles had been to the big dance since 2016. No player on the current roster was around for the last title run. Despite not reaching their ultimate goal, players like Lutheran grad Josh Streeter appreciate the ride they took.

"Not many people are able to go through what I went through," said Streeter. "So I just take it for granted. I thank the Lord for just putting me in that position to be here with my brothers. So that's great."

"We worked hard this whole year and just know that we made it to nationals and just got second place," said redshirt freshman Charles Burnell. We tried for first, but we came short. But just getting there and just being part of this team, it was a big accomplishment for us."

"They've done more for this program than they probably realize at the moment," explained head coach Tim Sandquist. " I was proud of them, I loved them and we're going to be back next year."
