Rock Valley College celebrates its softball national champions
Winning never gets old, and neither does celebrating the accomplishments. For Rock Valley College, the softball team was recognized during halftime of the men's basketball game on Saturday for winning their sixth straight NJCAA Division III national championship last spring.
As has become custom, RVC celebrated its champions with a ring ceremony and banner raising at the Physical Education Center.
Last year was the first time the Golden Eagles had to play from behind at the national tournament. After losing in the semifinals, Rock Valley had to win three games in two days to earn their record-setting sixth championship in a row.
Head coach Darin Monroe said last season is one he will soon not forget.
"We spent a lot of time this summer, just reflecting on the season as a whole," said Monroe. "We had some ups and some downs. Even going into the national tournament, getting on the backside for the first time. Being the first NJCAA softball program to ever win six straight championships and setting that record. Haven't thought about it for a while because come last August, my job is to get this next team prepared hopefully contending for number seven."
