Rockford, Ill. (WIFR) While the Rockford Pro Am may be set for Monday morning, it's the local stars battling it out on the green Sunday afternoon to see who can claim the title of this year's Aldeen Cup.
After two rounds of play, it came down to the two leaders, Garrett Ralston and Jamie Hogan, who tied at 146 to force a playoff at the Aldeen Golf Club.
Spectators watched anxiously on Hole 10 as the sudden-death playoff got underway, but both Ralston and Hogan made par (4) to continue on to Hole 11.
After both landing on the green, Ralston sinked the long birdie-putt, making the putt for Hogan a must, but he will settle for par, making Ralston the 2017 Aldeen Cup Champion.
"We were playing together, so I knew it was back and forth all day, I'd go up one, he'd go up one, it was a battle, so it was fun," said Ralston, a graduate of Harlem High School. "I started off pretty hot, I was 3-under through four, I kind of struggled there at the end but it was nice to get it together."
"That was my first playoff experience," Ralston said. "It's nice to get a win, and it's definitely different than regular golf. There's some great competition here, and it's tough, you've got to go low every week, this week was just my week. I hope this can really boost me going forward. There's a couple big events coming up and I hope I can ride the momentum."
