RVC tabs Bredehoeft to take over men's basketball program

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Two of the last three Rock Valley College Men's Basketball head coaches have bolted the program for Emporia State in Kansas. Now it's the Golden Eagles who are doing the same to Craig Doty and Evan Lavery, by taking one of their own.

RVC introduced Tyler Bredehoeft, 30, Tuesday as its new head coach. Bredehoeft spent last season as an assistant under Doty and alongside Lavery. Prior to Emporia State, he was an assistant at NAIA St. Mary's for five years.

While this is Bredehoeft's first collegiate head coaching gig, he told 23 Sports he was definitely motivated by the prestige of the college and the program, which is without a national title since 2016.

"I just think it's the winning tradition and the culture within the athletic department," explained Bredehoeft. "It's a really supportive culture here and obviously the banners that are hanging in here just kind of fuel everybody here."

"I just feel the energy and the passion. I think just talking to them, that's what draws me here. The passion for RVC and the winning tradition that's here. It's just something that's really special."
