Perrone picked for Illinois basketball hall of fame

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) In more than 20 years as a head coach at both Boylan and Harlem, Paul Perrone has amassed 10 regional titles, five sectionals and five NIC-10 championships and now the coach can add hall-of-fame to his resume.

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association released its 2019 hall of fame class this week with Perrone on the list.

He joins former boylan boys star Damir Krupalija and one of his former players with the Huskies, Aminata Yanni.

Perrone credits his mentors and all of his players past and present for the success that he has enjoyed.

"I had some great mentors along the way," said Perrone. "Don Tresemer was the first gentleman that hired me, Jim Leix was one of the best basketball coaches in the area and was a mentor. Of course, Steve Goers here and I learned a lot from all of those three coaches. I think any coach would tell you, if you are going to be a successful coach, you have to have quality athletes and I've been blessed over the 40 years I've been coaching to have some great athletes that have helped me be a successful coach myself."
