LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) If you are a high school football player looking for a chance to showcase your talents, the Northern Illinois 815 7v7 football team wants to hear from you.
Sunday, the team held its tryouts at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two. This is the second year of the traveling 7-on-7 football team, founded by head coach Billy Cook.
According to Cook, the program is an opportunity for players to compete against high-caliber talent and get noticed by college scouts.
"It's vital to get those skills ready in the offseason. I encourage our players to play multiple sports," said Cook. "I don't want them to be geared just for football. I want them to play multiple sports. But to be able to fine tune that skill as a receiver, defensive back, quarterback, and just working on footwork, those fundamentals, are key."
Northern Illinois 815 competed in two tournaments last year, including the NFA7v7 Midwest Regional held at Sportscore Two. Cook hopes to add a third tournament out of state this season.
If you did not make it to the tryout, but are interested in joining, you can reach out to the team on social media here.
