ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) North Love had to battle back from an eight point fourth quarter deficit to win the Illinois Association of Christian Schools state championship 47-44 over Mississippi Valley on Saturday in Rockford.
It's the Lady Lancers first IACS state title since 2012.
"We've came in fourth, fourth, second, second, it feels good to finally win," said North Love head coach Julianne Molencupp. "I have four seniors I've been coaching since they were in eighth grade and they haven't won state yet. This is their year."
North Love was in this same game a year ago, but the Lady Lancers lost to Marquette by 19 points. It's something that stuck with senior Carissa Akin.
"Coach has been telling us all season you just got to keep fighting and keep going," said Akin. "We never game up and we eventually won and I'm so happy we did."
Akin scored a team high 16 and was named the co-MVP of the state tournament.
