ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) North Love continues to be the standard as the Lancers beat Berean 69-62 on Saturday to win its third straight Illinois Association of Christian Schools boys basketball state championship.
North Love was led in scoring by junior Braeden Lahre with 19. Lahre and senior Channing Curington were named to the All-Tournament team. It's the first time the school has won three straight state titles.
"It was great," said Curington. "We had a lot of pressure, mainly that we put on ourselves. But in the end, we were able to put that aside and just play our heart outs as the senior guys and get it won."
Berean's Dennis Barksdale led all scorers with 26. The senior was named tournament MVP. It's the Kingsmen's second state runner-up finish in three years.
