GENOA, Ill. (WIFR) Lutheran dug itself out of holes multiple times to take down Montini 17-25, 25-19, 25-23 in the 2A Genoa-Kingston Sectional Final on Wednesday.
The three-set victory gave the Crusaders their first sectional title in school history.
Junior outside hitter Lauren Spangler led Lutheran with 18 kills while senior libero Katie Angel led the team with 13 digs.
"It kind of took a minute to get all of the jitters out," said Angel. "I think we pulled our heads out of our butts and then it kind of worked."
"At that point, it was just pure desire and heart and it was just hard work and everybody just played to the best of their abilities and we were all ready," said Spangler. "I don't even know. That was awesome."
The Saders will take on Timothy Christian at the Johnsburg Super-Sectional Friday at 6 p.m.
