LENA, Ill. (WIFR) Lena-Winslow multi-sport star Ian Kuehl made a big decision Thursday by signing on with Division II McKendree University to play both football and wrestling.
The Panther senior is highly decorated in his high school career, winning state titles in both sports and being named to the 2017 1A all-state football squad.
Originally, Kuehl was only going to play football in college, but recently changed his mind.
"It was actually mainly football and just recently I decided to give wrestling a shot because I really love wrestling too and it's been a passion of mine since first grade and so I decided both would be a good option," said Kuehl. "It's pretty cool. I'm excited about it, but I'm also nervous going four hours away from home. It will be a pretty fun experience to meet new people and to play collegiate sports will be a lot of fun."
He understands playing two sports will put a lot on his plate, but he's ready for the challenge.
"I heard it's a lot so I'll just have to stay organized and be on top of my stuff when school rolls around and give it all I've got in both aspects," Kuehl said. "It's a great wrestling program and good football program and they have really good academics. I can get my masters in five years and there's a lot of connections into the criminal justice area so it was a really good school for me to go to."
