ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Auburn’s basketball program has been sending superstars to the division one level for years. Now, it’s the football team’s turn to load up the college ranks.
Senior lineman Vederian Lowe is the newest Knight to make the jump. Lowe is heading to the Big Ten. The 6’6, 330 pound tackle committed to play at the University of Illinois Sunday.
Lowe was part of a fierce Auburn frontline that guided the Knights to last year’s NIC-10 title. He says the decision to pick Illinois was cemented once he learned he’d be playing for former Bears coach Lovie Smith.
“It’s been a very great experience. Coach Smith is a great guy. A real down to earth guy and it feels good to know that he wants me on his team and I want to make them better and I want to become as big of football player as a fan and hopefully he can make me a better football player in the future,” says Lowe.
