One of the biggest Illinois girls golf championships has always taken place in Central Illinois. However, that will not be the case anymore, as Rockford now enters the rotation as one of the hosts for this state tournament.

The 40th Illinois Women's Golf Association Junior Girls State Amateur is at Aldeen Golf Club today and Wednesday. It's another prestigious tournament coming to the Rockford Park District course. Last year, Aldeen hosted the IWGA Women's State Amateur and just a month ago, the Rockford Pro-AM was on the same course.

IWGA President Pat Burgy is from Rockford and helped bring the tournament to the Forest City. Burgy and other board members agree that Aldeen has all of the right elements for this event.

"It's really a good tournament course," said Burgy. "The other courses, I personally believe, are not quite up to this level of challenge."

"I think it's a good test for these girls," said IWGA board member Jane Piper. "It's a better test of their ability. I think the girls today are much better golfers. They start playing much younger."

"It's been a good move. I think it's a really good move for IWGA."
