ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) The IceHogs thought the Calder Cup would be theirs, but in a matter of six games, the Stars swooped in and took that away from them.
It's something Rockford's returning skaters have not forgotten about and they hope to return the favor this weekend.
After an 0-2 start with a pair of losses in Cleveland, the Hogs open up the BMO Harris Bank Center this Saturday with the Texas in a Western Conference Finals rematch.
The Stars took the series 4-2 after Rockford began the playoffs with seven straight wins.
The stakes are even higher with this season's match-ups now that the two are division rivals and head coach Jeremy Colliton believes that is a win for everybody.
"They lost some guys but so did we, but I'm sure there's a lot of the same faces so they'll have a good team," said Colliton. "Now they are in our division too which I think is fun. You want to have a strong division because it's good for everyone, it's good for the development of the players, it pushes us to be better as the year goes on so it will be a good test."
"We really want to take revenge on those guys," said defenseman Carl Dahlstrom. "I know that a lot of guys felt like we should have beat them, but obviously that didn't happen but we shouldn't focus too much on that. We've got to focus on us right now and do our best."
