ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) After the promotion of Jeremy Colliton to the Blackhawks, the IceHogs made Derek King their interim head coach through the remainder of the season.
This is King's third year with the organization and he now has the rest of the season to prove why he deserves the job.
"Jeremy put in a nice plan in place and there's no reason to change anything," said King. "I think our job here is to develop players get these players ready for the Hawks and hopefully we can get a little winning tradition down here also and keep that. So, again, continue to do what we do."
King played 14 seasons in the NHL including one year under Coach Q in St. Louis and says is excited for his first opportunity at a head coaching position.
King also served as an assistant with the Toronto Marlies from 2009 to 2015.
