IceHogs fall in overtime 2-1, lose series to Stars

CEDAR PARK, Tex. (WIFR) -- The Stars' Roope Hintz scored in overtime to win 2-1 and send the IceHogs home with a 4-2 series win.

Jeff Glass made 38 saves on 40 shots while Mike McKenna matched Glass with 38 stops on 39 attempts.

The final goalie totals show just how close this series truly was. Four of the six games were decided in overtime, with Texas winning three of them.

Sheldon Dries got the scoring started with 9:54 remaining in the second. It was a goal that was true puck luck. Dries took the puck off the corner board, tried to throw it in front, but instead it ricocheted off Gustav Forsling's stick and behind Glass' back, just crossing the line. Even though Glass reached behind and gloved the puck, review determined his glove was over the goal line.

The game would stay at 1-0 until the final minutes of regulation. With an extra attacker, Cody Franson, Adam Clendening and Chris DiDomenico teamed up one more time for the game-tying goal with 1:34 to play. DiDomenico slid it underneath McKenna for his seventh of the postseason.

But the late-game dramatics didn't end there. With 8.5 seconds left in the first overtime, Colin Markison fended off Joni Tuulola, then found Hintz on the far circle for a wrister top-shelf that beat Glass to end the series.

This was the first time the IceHogs made it to the AHL Western Conference Finals.
