BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) After splitting the season series, seventh-ranked Hononegah dethroned ninth-ranked Boylan with a 68-53 win in the 4A Belvidere North Sectional Final Thursday night.
The Indians were led by senior Jordan King who scored 24 points.
"Personally, I wanted to get this far and I know my team has wanted it twice as much as I have," said King. "I'm just so proud of everything that happened tonight and how everyone came out to play and I just cant wait to keep playing with this team."
Sophomore forward Allison Murdoch added 12 points and senior forward Cali Schmitz netted nine points.
"I think our team deserves this so much and it's something we've been wanting," said Schmitz. "Especially since last year playing Boylan in the sectional final, we wanted to come out and get the opposite outcome this year which we did."
Titans seniors Ashley Reyes and Brooke Eshleman led their team with 12 points each.
"Boylan made a nice little run in the second half and in past years I think we would have freaked out a little bit," said head coach Randy Weibel. "Tonight they just battled and we rebounded the crap out of it."
Hono will play Wheaton Warrenville South Monday in the Streamwood Super-Sectional. If the Indians win, they will go to state for the first time in school history.
