BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) Hononegah rode its hot hand as it captured its first regional title since 2014 by beating Hampshire 5-2 on Thursday.
Senior Pitcher Ashton Melaas went seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts.
"Obviously the pressure is there, but with her pitching everything feels safe and it feels good," said sophomore third baseman Kendall Johnson. "Our defense behind her is good enough too so we knew we had it."
Johnson went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
"I think we have all phases of the game," said head coach Dan Bohn. "We've got the pitching, we've got the defense and our bats are going to come around. We've hit all year long so its just a matter of getting the barrel on the ball and leveling things out."
