ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Hononegah did not let the seeding decide the winner before the match was even played. The six-seed Lady Indians defeated three-seed Jacobs 5-4 to win the Auburn Regional championship.
Hononegah took a two-goal lead into halftime. However, the Golden Eagles responded in the first five minutes of the second half to tie it.
The back-and-forth continued until Julia Barenbaum found the back of the net with under two to play for the game-winning goal.
Hononegah will face Cary-Grove in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday at Guilford.
