Hononegah holds off Harlem to win Belvidere North regional
Hononegah went to the bench for help, but the Indians did just enough in the final game of the day to beat Harlem for the Belvidere North regional title on Saturday at the Cherry Bowl.
Hononegah used six bowlers, getting a 279 in game six from sophomore James Stewart that put the Indians ahead for good.
The Huskies were led by individual champion Ethan Pash. The junior averaged 239.5 over the six-game series.
The other two advancing teams from this regional are Rockford Christian and Belvidere. Belvidere North will send four bowlers to next week's sectional, while Guilford is represented by senior John Jurgens. South Beloit captain Brand Redieske was the final individual to advance.
In the Freeport regional, the Pretzels protect home lanes, edging out Auburn by 24 pins. They will be joined by another NIC-10 school in Boylan. Oregon holds off Big Northern Conference rival DIxon by 30 pins for the final team spot. The Dukes will settle for three individuals at sectionals next week.
Others advancing as individuals include Jefferson's Landed Cowell, East junior Corbyn Villarreal and Rochelle's Brady Shank.
The boys bowling sectional will take place at Don Carter Lanes on Saturday, January 19.
