Hononegah falls to DeKalb in first regional final since 2013

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Hononegah generated plenty of opportunities against DeKalb, but the Indians could not find the back of the net in a 1-0 in the Class 3A Guilford Regional Final on Saturday.

It was their first appearance in a regional title game since 2013.

DeKalb got on the board in the seventh minute when Hononegah's clearing attempt was taken by TJ Vilet. Vilet then corralled the ball, made one move and fired it past Alex Moore.

The Indians pressed the Barbs backline throughout the later portion of the first half, including a wide open header attempt off a corner kick by Caden Laumer that went wide right of the net.

Hononegah ends its season 10-9-1. DeKalb will play Jacobs in the sectional semifinals on Wednesday.
