DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) Dixon basketball has been without back-to-back regional titles in more than 50 years, but the Dukes have the chance to end that drought this upcoming season and they can do it with a new head coach.
Chris Harmann takes over the Dixon program after leaving his assistant coaching gig down in Quincy.
His first head coaching job may provide him plenty of chances to grab some victories by joining the Dukes who return the core of a roster that went 17-16 with a regional final win over Big Northern champion Rock Falls.
Harmann is playing catch-up after missing out on the East Summer League, but he says things are already looking up.
"Some of the expectations and schematically we're going to be different, but those guys have worked this summer on being leaders," said Harmann. "I've talked with the weightlifting coach and our sophomore coach and they said that these guys have really stepped up in that aspect and that's something that, on the court and off the court, we're looking for leaders. They want to win that regional again. It's good to have that kind of a goal this early in the year. Coming in late after summer, it's not always easy to pick things up right away. Kids are getting ready for school, but it's definitely a good thing."
