ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) When you walk into the Gymnastics Academy of Rockford, it's fairly difficult not to notice all of the trophies and gold lining the walls of the gym and now there will be even more hardware to hang.
GAR's tumbling and trampoline teams traveled to Madison this past weekend for the USTA Nationals and returned to the Stateline with 33 individual and team titles.
The academy's athletes were victorious 21 times in trampoline, four times in double mini and eight times in tumbling.
They also placed first in advanced overall and trampoline overall.
It was a momentous performance for many and some are even thinking about winning again in 2018.
"I'm really relieved," said Karlie Anderson. "It's taken me this long to get where I am and it's paid off a lot. I feel like we will again dominate and be GAR like we have been in the past."
GAR's teams competed against more than 140 other squads and some of the more experienced athletes got a chance to motivate their teammates.
"Sometimes they're like 'oh I'm scared to do this' but I said it was my first time last year and I know how you feel," said Natalyia Stallings. "I just said we can do this, I know you, if you can do it here you can do it anywhere else, you've got this. I just encouraged them a lot. We're amazing. Especially for a lot of people who hadn't did it, they did good and some of them even got first so I'm really happy we did good."
