FORRESTON, Ill. (WIFR) Forreston senior Braedon Fyock threw his hands to the sky after sinking the game-winning shot against Dakota in the fourth overtime of their regional title game Friday night.
The Cardinals won it 48-45 with the help of 34 points from Fyock.
"Honestly I wasn't really thinking," said Fyock. "I came off the ball screen, Hayden [Singley] and Mitch [Heinz] set me two good screens, I got the guy in the air on a pump-fake and I turned and let it fly. I'm a good three-point shooter. I thought it was going in and it went in."
It's the school's first regional since finishing fourth at state in 2015.
"We kind of went back to our bread and butter, but we had to do it three or four times," said head coach Jonathan Schneiderman. "Dribble, hand-off, ball-screen, dribble, hand-off, ball-screen and the guys had a lot of courage. I'll tell you I'm proud of Braedon Fyock because I don't know if he's missed three free throws in 25 games, let alone in one night so he was very frustrated with that so I think it was fitting that he was able to knock that show down."
Forreston takes on fourth-ranked East Dubuque Wednesday in the Warriors' sectional semifinals.
