ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) The 26-0 second round loss does sit well with Hononegah.
Senior Ryan VanSchelven admits he would love to get that one back, but despite his mistakes in that game, the Indians are putting even more trust in their quarterback.
VanSchelven is back under center with the NIC-10 title on his mind.
The quarterback was 6-for-20 with 63 yards passing in that defeat to Benet, but also finished top of the conference with 19 passing touchdowns and third with 1,358 yards.
With most of the offense returning, VanSchelven is confident in his abilities and says it also makes him feel better to know his coaches are fully behind him.
"The most important thing is not being afraid to check in and out of things if I see something that coaches don't or something on the field," said VanSchelven. "Coach Ryan has put a lot of trust in me and said that whatever I see, take it. Don't be afraid to make audibles at the line and mentally I just have to grow and make sure we put the ball in the right place run or pass. No matter where the ball goes we have a lot of weapons and I just have to take what the defense gives us."
