Eastland punches ticket to state for second straight year

STREAMWOOD, Ill. (WIFR) Eastland punched its ticket to state for the second year in a row with a 77-38 win over Hope Academy Monday night in the 1A Streamwood Super-Sectional Final.

The Cougars used a big night from senior Erin Henze, who scored a game-high 29 points, to propel them to the win.

Lydia Coatney and Karlie Krogman each added 12 points.

"I feel like sectionals are always harder than super-sectionals," said Krogman. "It's always been this way, I don't know why, but we knew coming into this game if we played hard and played our game, we would win."

"These girls do a great job of having their head on right and they know what's at stake so they came in and worked hard," said head coach Nicole Brinkman. "They didn't fight that hard against our teams in our area to come here and lay an egg so they wanted to make sure they came out and played their best game not only for themselves, but to represent our area."

Eastland matches up with Shiloh in Friday's 1A State Semifinal inside Redbird Arena in Normal.
