PEORIA, Ill. (WIFR) East (34-4) had its historic season come to an end Saturday with a 64-55 loss to Curie in the Class 4A consolation game.
Sincere Parker got the game started with a three-pointer which the junior hoped would jump start his shooting night. It didn't. The all-time single-season scoring leader at East scored 11 points in the first half, but was shutout in the final two quarters. The normally pinpoint sharpshooter from behind the arc went 3-17 in the two state tournament games.
Senior Dre Thompson was the only other scorer to finish in double digits for East (12).
The E-Rabs went to the bench early and often in this one. Every player on the roster saw minutes on the floor with 14 points collectively coming from the reserves.
Sha'den Clanton and Chris Burnell each scored eight points in their final game at East.
The 2019 E-Rabs have a lot to be proud of, however. The first undefeated conference record, the first 30-plus win season, and the first trip to state in 41 years.
Head coach Roy Sackmaster was understandably emotional after the game.
"It's been a privilege being able to be around these guys," said Sackmaster. "When you're around a group of kids like this, you can't help but want good kids like this to be successful."
"When you see them have that success, it just makes you feel good about being around them, being part of that. I thank them for that opportunity to be able to do it."
