Boylan's Smolinski makes A's opening day roster

OAKLAND (WIFR) Boylan grad Jake Smolinski will begin his fifth season in the majors on the A's roster as one of the team's two center-fielders.

Smolinski's 2017 season was cut short due to a shoulder injury. Before having surgery, the outfielder played 16 games with a .259 batting average.

In four seasons with Oakland and Texas, the Rockford native has 16 home runs, 65 RBI and a career .243 average.
