ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Boylan girls basketball announces Monday it will host one of the many holiday tournaments going on before the end of the calendar year starting this season.
The Lady Titans are calling it the Reindeer Games. It will take place December 27 and 29. Eight teams from the surrounding area will compete, including Aquin and Belvidere North.
Head coach Paul Perrone said it's the first-ever girls holiday tournament held in the Rockford-area. There are plans for a three-point and free throw contest open to the public. Perrone said the event will be unique.
"It's nice to have both large and small schools," said Perrone. "Small schools have quality players so it'll be nice for us to be able to play teams from the surrounding area and it'll be nice for them to play us, a Class 4A school. We look forward to having that nice blend."
Perrone believes Boylan's recent success makes this a destination tournament for other schools.
"It helps us because a lot of programs around the state want to play quality teams. I think our record in the past years have helped them decide to come to this tournament and they know it's going to be a classy tournament."
