ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) He's coached teams in the Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC and now Lynn Blevins is tasked with building the Rockford University women's golf program from nothing.
Blevins joined the Regents after 40 years of coaching at places like Iowa, Florida and his alma mater Oklahoma.
In recent years, he has been with smaller schools including NCAA Division II Rogers State where he built both the men's and women's teams from scratch.
Although he was successful turning both into top 20 squads, Blevins says he definitely made some mistakes and he's taking those lessons to Rockford.
"I will look to kids to take on more responsibility in certain roles," said Blevins. "I will try and place kids in roles that I was trying to do that you can't do as a leader and as a coach. Those are just some of the mistakes I made then and I think now I will rely on kids to take different roles and put more into it and help me help them along the way to fill those leadership roles."
