CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WIFR) Belvidere North overcame a slow start to defeat Crystal Lake Central 13-25, 25-23, 25-21 in the 3A Crystal Lake South Sectional Final Wednesday night.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Scott notched five kills and one ace while sophomore Jayden Flynn racked up 25 assists.
"We were the underdog here, no question about it," said head coach Amanda Carlson. "Crystal Lake Central, they're responsible for two of our three losses this season. They are huge, they are intimidating, they've had an impressive season. We knew on paper, they were the favorite. But, that's why you don't play on paper. This is why you play the game."
"This is the first time that we've been to a sectional championship for our program so it is just so huge, especially being from Belvidere," said Scott. "People from the NIC-10 don't make it this far usually. It's just so amazing to finally make it this far."
The Blue Thunder will meet Sterling in the 3A LaSalle-Peru Super-Sectional Friday at 6 p.m.
