ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Usually golfing on the holidays is reserved for days like Father's Day. However, one family is making a tradition of getting the foursome together on Mother's Day.
"I took my first lesson at 65."
Bonnie Russell, 72, is proving you can teach an old dog new tricks. Russell, her husband and her two sons, set out for their own second annual family Mother's Day golf outing at Aldeen Golf Club. She has no problem playing with the boys.
"It's fun. At first it was very challenging," said Russell. "But the more I do it, the more I like it. Now I'm in three leagues and yeah, I have fun with these guys."
Brian and Scott Krieger love going golfing with their mother.
"It's very cool. It's amazing watching her play," said Brian. "She keeps getting better and better every time."
"It's way cool. She's amazing," said Scott. "She golfs all week, works out, bowls. She's going to outlive me and my brother."
Russell doesn't mind getting in a round golf in on the holidays either. The family also played this past Easter. She said it's a chance to bond on the course and avoid doing dishes.
"Because then I don't have to cook and we don't have to sit in the house. It's more fun being out here."
And no matter what age you are, there is one lesson her two sons will always remember, listen to your mother.
"It's a lot of fun and whatever mom wants to do, that's what we do."
