23 Sports Ticket's 2017-18 Male Athlete of the Year

With another school year in the books, the 23 Sports Ticket reveals the nominees for the 2017-18 Male Athlete of the Year.

Anthony Cassioppi (Hononegah, Sr.)
Cassioppi finished off his wrestling career with the Indians with a third straight NIC-10 and second straight state title. The Iowa-commit was a perfect 100-0 in his final two seasons at Hono.

Angel Martinez (Auburn, Sr.)
Martinez was named USA Boxing's 2017 Youth Male Boxer of the Year. The Auburn grad won his sixth national title in December in Salt Lake City. He also finished second at the Youth Continental Championship in Colorado Springs.

Andrew Morrissey (Winnebago, Sr.)
Morrissey was the driving force behind the Indians march to state. He helped Bago match its highest finish at state as it lost in the 2A title game to Orr 76-49. Morrissey was named to the 2A All-State First Team.

Rahveon Valentine (Lena-Winslow, Sr.)
Valentine made Lena-Winslow football go this past season en route to a 21-20 victory in the 1A title game over Tuscola. The senior running back rushed for two touchdowns in the championship game after scoring a team-leading 29 total TD's in the 13 games leading up to it. He was named to the 1A All-State team.

Nick Sommer (Hononegah, Sr.)
Sommer earned the recognition of the state's best bowler after edging out the rest of the field by just two pins back in January at the state finals. Not only did the Wichita State-commit bowl a perfect 10th frame to win gold for himself, but the performance helped the Indians to their second bowling state title in school history.
