Young pediatric patients in Rockford treated to surprise

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Children at Mercyhealth's Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic-Riverside were surprised with some new goodies Thursday afternoon.

"Sadie's Dream for a Cure," a national organization benefiting children with cancer, donated 50 bags to the Mercyhealth Development Foundation.

Patients received goodie bags filled with games, coloring books and toys to cheer them up while they're in the hospital.

The group says its volunteers and those who donate gifts mean the world to the children.

"Without our volunteers that sew these bags, we couldn't do what we do," said Lynn Heeren, bookkeeper for Sadie's Dream for a Cure. "That is big part of our organization to have the bags that we can fill and deliver."

"Sadie's Dream for a Cure" helps thousands of families with children battling cancer each year. For more information on the organization, click here.
