YMCA kicks off 2016 Intern Challenge
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The 5th Annual YMCA Intern Challenge kicks off today with the 18 new applicants vying for a paid internship and college scholarships.
The contestants will work throughout the summer alongside the area’s top business executives in challenges to develop teamwork, leadership, and professional skills. The first task was to create a brand awareness plan, fundraising event, and a promotional video for the Goldie B. Floberg Center. The intern challenge is meant to create and engage the next generation of YMCA employees.
"We're expecting them not only to create brand awareness and a marketing strategy for the Goldie Floberg Center. Also to educate the students on what it means to work for a nonprofit, the different opportunities to work for a nonprofit and also to get their hands into mission-based work,” says YMCA Intern Challenge Director Tyler Anderson.
The Intern Challenge will conclude in August. The winner will receive a $1,500 college scholarship and an internship with the YMCA.
